13 May 2010: 1,000 new teaching posts confirmed

The Department of Education has confirmed that over 1,000 new teaching posts will be created in September. A spokesperson said the move would cost €40m, but said savings would have to be made elsewhere. A report in today's Irish Independent said the jobs are being created because of a huge surge in pupil numbers.
