Commenting on the partnership Andrew Maguire, Managing Director of Lakeland Communications said: “Derry City is the first city in the UK to have all street cabinets fully fitted with fibre broadband technology; with BT we are planning to assist local businesses to make the best use of the state of the art broadband facilities they now have access to.

“In the run up to Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013, it is important that those in business take the lead and build on the opportunities that exist particularly given the ongoing difficult economic conditions. With the City’s broadband infrastructure we have a real opportunity to not only foster local enterprise but to attract further inward investment and we plan to play a role in this,” he added.

According to James Devlin, Head of BT Business in Northern Ireland, the transformational technology will help give businesses in the northwest, the competitive edge:
“With BT’s investment in fibre broadband technology we are working to support business owners at a crucially important time. The partnership with Lakeland Communications is part of our overall strategy to start getting local businesses to think about how they can use broadband to boost their business activities now and into the future.

“Access to superfast broadband gives businesses choice, flexibility and mobility. Never before have Derry~Londonderry businesses had so many options open to them in terms of how they can run their business, and working with Lakeland Communications will ensure that businesses in the northwest know how to make the most of this opportunity.”
